TEDxVIIT | THE SOUND OF RE-INVENTION
Smokey was invited to speak at TEDxVIIT at Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology, Pune, where she presented “The Sound of Re-Invention,” a talk reflecting on creativity, evolution and the courage to continually redefine oneself. Drawing from her journey as a DJ, music producer, electronic live artist and educator, Smokey used music as a framework to explore the idea of reinvention. Her story moves beyond the conventional idea of changing careers or identities, looking instead at reinvention as an ongoing creative practice: questioning familiar patterns, embracing uncertainty, experimenting with new ideas and allowing each stage of life to shape the artist that comes next.
In the talk, Smokey connects her experiences within India's evolving electronic music scene with a broader perspective on risk, creative independence and personal evolution. From performing across major festivals and international stages to developing new musical identities and mentoring emerging artists, her journey reflects a continuous process of experimentation and transformation. The TEDx talk brings these experiences together through the language she knows best: sound, rhythm and creative expression. Rather than presenting reinvention as a single moment of change, “The Sound of Re-Invention” explores it as a mindset. It is about remaining curious, challenging the boundaries of one's own identity and finding the confidence to create something new, even when the path ahead is uncertain.

Alongside her career as a performing artist and producer, Smokey has built an extensive practice in music education and mentorship. For more than a decade, she has worked with aspiring DJs and producers across India, sharing practical knowledge gained through years of performance, production and live electronic music. Her workshops and masterclasses span DJ performance, music production, Ableton Live and electronic live performance, with sessions delivered at music academies, media institutes and creative institutions across Mumbai, Pune, Thane and Ahmedabad. Her teaching philosophy combines technical understanding with experimentation, encouraging students to move beyond learning the tools and develop a distinctive creative voice.
